Deakon Cervantes made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has become a key player for Brackenridge: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-6 otherwise. Cervantes was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jordan Monroy, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Brackenridge's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-6 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Contreras, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Brackenridge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .632. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lanier only posted an OBP of .286.
Meanwhile, Jefferson made easy work of Highlands on Tuesday and carried off a 10-3 win. Considering the Mustangs have won six matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Fernando Benitez-Ruiz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on three hits and racked up 11 Ks.
On the hitting side, Landin Keller was incredible, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and three RBI. Aiden Urdiales was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
Jefferson now has a winning record of 9-8-1. As for Brackenridge, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Brackenridge skirted past Jefferson 3-2 in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
