Lower Cape May extended their winning streak to seven on Monday, bumping them up to 8-3. They walked away with a 16-12 victory over the Cape May County Tech Hawks. While the Tigers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Lower Cape May let Abigail Pellicano and E'Leyna Koerner run wild. Pellicano went a perfect 4-for-4 with five runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Koerner went 4-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Pellicano is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last seven games she's played. Layton Arenberg also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Lower Cape May was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .345 or higher in seven consecutive matchups.
As for Cape May County Tech, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-6. Hawks fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against Lower Cape May since Monday.
On Cape May County Tech's side, Emma Oravits was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. Oravits was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Brianna Knights and Melissa Rivello stepped up to the plate in a big way. Knights went 3-for-6 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Rivello went 1-for-4 with three runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Annabella Culican, who went 1-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Coming up, Lower Cape May will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Buena at 4:00 p.m. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Chiefs have averaged an impressive 11.3 runs per game this season. As for Cape May County Tech, they will take on Oakcrest at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
