Softball Recap: Pittston Wins Going Away Against Wyoming Valley West

Pittston won the last time they faced Wyoming Valley West and things went their way on Thursday too. The Patriots were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Spartans. Considering the Patriots have won four contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Samantha Herbert made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Herbert was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Pittston let Gabby Roman and Marina Antal run wild. Roman went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Antal went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most RBI Roman has posted since back in May of 2024. Mikaila Sarf also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Pittston kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive matchups.

Pittston is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Wyoming Valley West, they dropped their record down to 1-8 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.

Pittston wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 16-6 win against Wyoming Area on the 27th. As for Wyoming Valley West, they will head out to take on Crestwood at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Comets have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
