After losing to the Taft Eagles the last time they met, the Hyde Park Thunderbirds decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Hyde Park took down the Eagles 43-25 on Saturday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Hyde Park.
Hyde Park's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mia Gaines, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 16 rebounds. Gaines is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Jazmyne Bynum was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Taft's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elena Gonzalez, who scored six points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Gonzalez hasn't dropped below three steals for six straight games.
Hyde Park has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. As for Taft, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-11.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hyde Park will take on the Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Von Steuben will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. As for Taft, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Jaguars at 5:00 p.m. King will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 358th, while the Eagles are ranked 175th).
