Portage has been on the road for two straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on The River Valley Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Portage fell victim to Penns Manor's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They suffered a tough 22-0 loss at the hands of the Comets.
River Valley had a rough season last year, but they look ready to turn that poor record around this year. They came out on top against United Valley co-op [Blacklick Valley/United] by a score of 13-6 on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for River Valley.
River Valley can attribute much of their success to Sam Yanits, who rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown, and Gavin Burkhart, who rushed for 129 yards and a touchdown.
Penns Manor's victory bumped their season record to 4-5 while Portage's defeat dropped theirs to 3-6.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Portage has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 173.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like River Valley struggles in that department as they've been even better at 264 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Everything came up roses for Portage against River Valley when the teams last played back in August of 2022 as the squad secured a 40-6 victory. Does Portage have another victory up their sleeve, or will River Valley turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
