Naugatuck is a perfect 9-0 against Kennedy since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Greyhounds will be playing at home against the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Naugatuck is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Naugatuck is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 11 runs on Monday, they were much more limited against Seymour on Tuesday. They fell 5-1 to the Wildcats.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Kennedy made sure to put some runs up on the board against Waterbury Career Academy on Monday. The Eagles put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 16-1 victory. Considering the Eagles have won five matchups by more than eight runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Wilmel Encarnacion-Frica made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Kennedy is 2-1 when Encarnacion-Frica allows three or fewer hits, but 3-8 otherwise. Encarnacion-Frica was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Jaydon Lopez was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with five stolen bases and four runs. Another player making a difference was Luis David Vazquez, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Kennedy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Waterbury Career Academy only posted an OBP of .360.
Kennedy's win bumped their record up to 5-9. As for Naugatuck, their loss dropped their record down to 13-6.
Naugatuck got the 'W' when the teams last played back in May of 2025 against Kennedy by a conclusive 13-0 score. Will the Greyhounds repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
