The Monroe Redhawks lost against the Weddington Warriors back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Monroe's rough 69-44 loss to the Warriors might stick with them for a while. Monroe has struggled against the Warriors recently, as their contest on Wednesday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Monroe saw an underclassman step up: Bryson Simpkins scored ten points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Jamari Clark was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
It was another big night for KJ Younger, who almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine rebounds for Weddington. Younger hasn't dropped below 15 points for seven straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Grant Hamilton, who scored 14 points along with three steals.
Monroe's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Weddington, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 18-1.
Monroe will head out on the road to face off against the Colts at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. West Stanly has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 193 points over their last three matches. As for Weddington, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Pirates at 8:00 p.m. Porter Ridge is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
