Plateau Valley has been on the road for five straight, but on Wednesday they'll finally head home. The Plateau Valley Cowboys and the De Beque Dragons will face off at 7:00 p.m. on December 13th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. One thing working in Plateau Valley's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matchups.
Last Saturday, Plateau Valley was fully in charge, breezing past Crested Butte 74-43 on the road. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Plateau Valley has managed all season.
Jack Vig was his usual excellent self, scoring 23 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Plateau Valley's points. Another player making a difference was Jackson Bevan, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, De Beque's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell to Nucla 52-48.
Despite their defeat, De Beque saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Burke Largent, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and three steals, was perhaps the best of all. The match was Largent's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Scottie Vines, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Even though they lost, De Beque were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Plateau Valley's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for De Beque, their loss dropped their record down to 3-1.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Plateau Valley have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 31.2 rebounds per game. It's a different story for De Beque, though, as they've been averaging only 32.5 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything went Plateau Valley's way against De Beque in their previous matchup back in February as Plateau Valley made off with a 54-32 win. Will Plateau Valley repeat their success, or does De Beque have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
