The Jones County Coyotes will face off against the Leola/Frederick Titans at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Jones County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Tuesday.
Jones County lost a heartbreaker to the Chargers when they met back in February of 2022, and they left with a heavy heart again. Jones County was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 54-53 to the Chargers. Jones County has not had much luck with the Chargers recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Kaden Kinsley, who scored 17 points. Another player making a difference was Cooper Feddersen, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Leola/Frederick beat the Monarchs 49-36 on Thursday. Given Leola/Frederick's advantage in MaxPreps' South Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while the Monarchs are ranked 87th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jones County's loss dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Leola/Frederick, their win was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-1.
Jones County didn't have too much breathing room in their game against the Titans in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 54-48 victory. Does Jones County have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Titans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
