Softball Recap: Weeki Wachee Takes a Loss

Weeki Wachee lost against Citrus back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Weeki Wachee Hornets took a 14-11 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Citrus Hurricanes. Even if the Hornets couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Jayden Russo made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Juliana Gray, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3.

Even though they lost, Weeki Wachee kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Weeki Wachee is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6. As for Citrus, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Weeki Wachee will face off against Fivay at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Fivay has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.25 runs per game on average), something Weeki Wachee will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Citrus, they will challenge Springstead at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
