The New Iberia Yellowjackets came tearing into Saturday's contest with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.1 points) and they left with even more momentum. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Catholic - N.I. 42-40. Given New Iberia's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while Catholic - N.I. is ranked 91st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead New Iberia to victory, but perhaps none more so than Wayne Randall-bashay, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. Randall-bashay hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Otis Anderson, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds.
New Iberia is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-3 record this season. As for Catholic - N.I., their defeat dropped their record down to 16-7.
New Iberia will head out on the road to challenge Lafayette at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lafayette will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak. As for Catholic - N.I., they will be playing at home against Loreauville at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
