Columbian is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Wednesday. They will head out on the road to square off against the Perkins Pirates at 4:45 p.m. Columbian comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
Things were looking good for Columbian after they put the first runs on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They came up short against Huron, falling 13-4.
Jaxon Little was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs but no hits. Little was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. That run marked the first that he scored this season.
In other batting news, Isaiah Tilse was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing five bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Jamison Woessner also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.
Meanwhile, Perkins beat Willard 9-4 on Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pirates.
Jayden Baingana looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.
On the hitting side, Dylan Crabtree was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing five bases while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Mason Souter, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI and one stolen base.
Perkins hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Willard struck out 11 times.
Perkins' record is now 3-1. As for Columbian, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Columbian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Perkins struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
