The Long Reach Lightning entered their tilt with the Howard Lions with 12 consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 13. Long Reach walked away with a 74-67 victory over the Lions on Friday. Given Long Reach's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while the Lions are ranked 106th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Junior Nunez was his usual excellent self, scoring 23 points along with five steals. He hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Dillon Mckinney, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds.
Long Reach pushed their record up to 16-1 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.6 points per game. As for Howard, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-6.
Long Reach will head out on the road to take on the Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Howard, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Hawks at 5:30 p.m. River Hill has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 1,274 points over their last 17 matchups.
