Softball Recap: Mattoon Snags Third Victory in Last Four Games

Mattoon won the last time they faced Teutopolis and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Greenwave walked away with an 11-7 victory over the Wooden Shoes.

Aylexis Otto was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off 11 hits. Otto was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Alyssa Whitley was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexi Murdock, who went 4-for-5 with three runs and one stolen base.

Mattoon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Mattoon is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-14 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Teutopolis, they now have a losing record of 8-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mattoon will head out to face off against Richland County at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Greenwave are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Teutopolis, they are taking a road trip to square off against Paris at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
