Rancho Cotate will bounce into Friday's matchup after beating Maria Carrillo, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Cougars walked away with a 10-6 victory over the Pumas on Wednesday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Cougars as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Leila Figoni was excellent, going 3-for-5 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sadie Yahya, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.
Rancho Cotate was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .378. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, while Ukiah put up some runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Santa Rosa. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Panthers. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by seven runs or more this season.
Taylor Allen made a big impact no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Macie Winzler, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI and one run. Scout Adams was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two RBI.
Ukiah's victory bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Rancho Cotate, their win bumped their record up to 5-8.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Rancho Cotate hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .329. However, it's not like Ukiah struggles in that department as they've averaged .373. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
