Godwin has won eight straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Deep Run has won eight straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Friday. The Eagles will host the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Godwin 2.8, Deep Run 2.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Wednesday as neither Godwin nor Glen Allen made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Eagles came out on top against the Jaguars by a score of 7-2. Surprisingly, this marked the Eagles' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Davis Golden looked comfortable as he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Matthew Hartsfield was excellent, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. J Babcock was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Deep Run). They never let Maggie Walker get on the board and left with a 24-0 victory on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with Maggie Walker: they've now won seven in a row.
Will Frank looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
On the hitting side, Henry Jennings was a standout: he got on base in five of his six plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Carson Strieffler, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
Deep Run hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matches.
Godwin's victory bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Deep Run, their win bumped their record up to an identical 9-2.
Godwin couldn't quite finish off Deep Run in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 2-0. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
