Brookfield has been on the road for three straight, but on Saturday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Maplewood Rockets at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Brookfield lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the defeat they were handed on last Thursday was a bit more commanding. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 51-26 walloping at the hands of Champion. While losing is never fun, Brookfield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 664th, while Champion is ranked 273rd).
Despite their defeat, Brookfield saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Cailey Wellman, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Wellman is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mya Jumper, who scored 12 points.
Brookfield struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Champion posted 13 assists.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Maplewood's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 61-43 bruising from Badger. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Maplewood in their matchups with Badger: they've now lost five in a row.
Brookfield has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for Maplewood, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-5.
Everything came up roses for Brookfield against Maplewood in their previous matchup back in January of 2016 as the team secured a 47-19 win. With Brookfield ahead 28-8 at the half, the match was all but over already.
