If the Overton Eagles were riding high off their 58-28 takedown of the Wilcox-Hildreth Falcons last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Overton fell 64-56 to Sumner-Eddyville-Miller on Friday. Even though they lost, Overton's still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 50.2 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Overton lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Eli Luther, who scored 13 points along with five steals. Luther has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Braden Fleischman, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Sumner-Eddyville-Miller's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jace Rosentreader led the charge by scoring 21 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Cohen Rohde was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.
Overton now has a losing record at 10-11. As for Sumner-Eddyville-Miller, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Overton will take on Gibbon at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Overton knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matchups -- so hopefully Gibbon likes a good challenge. As for Sumner-Eddyville-Miller, they will be playing at home against South Loup at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Sumner-Eddyville-Miller is coming into the game with five straight wins at home, so South Loup is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum.
