Green Mountain is on a 13-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Roosevelt is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Green Mountain Rams will take on the Roosevelt Roughriders at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Green Mountain had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They breezed by Glenwood Springs at home to the tune of 52-7. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 38-7.
Green Mountain had a senior duo take command as Blake Weslin threw for 142 yards and two touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes and Nowell Dacres rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries. Dalton Poulignot was another key contributor, gaining 64 total yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Roosevelt really took it to Riverdale Ridge for the full four quarters, racking up a 55-20 win on the road. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Roosevelt had established a 28 point advantage.
Roosevelt had a senior duo take command as Bronco Hartson rushed for 188 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries and Xavier Ramirez rushed for 250 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 13.9 yards per carry. Ramirez has been hot recently, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Luc Vigil, who rushed for 57 yards and a touchdown on only five carries.
Their wins bumped Green Mountain to 11-0 and Roosevelt to 9-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's matchup: Green Mountain has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 263.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Roosevelt struggles in that department as they've been even better at 276.2 per game. It's looking like Saturday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
