Two dominant guards in Kennedy Austin and Jonae McKnight are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Maret Frogs will welcome the Friendship Collegiate Academy Knights at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Maret is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.5 points per game this season.
Maret is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: Bullis, who was ranked second in their home state at the time (Maret was ranked third). Maret took a blow against Bullis on Friday, falling 82-45. The Frogs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-13.
Maret might have lost, but man, London Liley was a machine: she on her way to 24 points and five rebounds. That was a full 53.3% of Maret's points, marking the seventh time in a row Liley has posted more than a third of the team's points.
Even though they lost, Maret smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Friendship Collegiate Academy was able to grind out a solid win over KIPP College Prep last Saturday, taking the game 52-43.
Friendship Collegiate Academy's win came from a few key players Maret will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Z'Niyah Moore, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 11 boards. That's the most rebounds she has posted since back in December of 2024. McKnight was another key player, putting up 12 points along with six boards and six steals.
Friendship Collegiate Academy has been performing well recently as they've won 13 of their last 16 games. That's provided a massive bump to their 16-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.0 points over those games. Maret's defeat dropped their record down to 19-9.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Maret hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 56.5 points per game. It's a different story for Friendship Collegiate Academy, though, as they've been averaging only 35.7 points. The only thing between Maret and another offensive beatdown is Friendship Collegiate Academy. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Everything came up roses for Maret against Friendship Collegiate Academy in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as the team secured a 59-26 victory. In that matchup, Maret amassed a halftime lead of 39-14, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Wednesday.
