The Medina Battling Bees are taking a road trip to challenge the Mentor Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Medina is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
On Monday, Medina came up short against Strongsville and fell 8-3. The Battling Bees have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Katie Rubino was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run and two runs.
Meanwhile, Mentor entered their tilt with Shaker Heights on Wednesday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They put the hurt on the Red Raiders with a sharp 14-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Cardinals, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Maggie Haydu was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ireland Rainey, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Addison Belviso was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
Mentor was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Shaker Heights only posted a batting average of .143.
Mentor's record is now 11-7. As for Medina, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-8.
Medina skirted past Mentor 10-9 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Battling Bees since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
