Mt. Pleasant hasn't had much luck against Grosse Pointe South recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Oilers will square off against the Blue Devils at 11:00 a.m.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Mt. Pleasant and Dow meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Oilers fell just short of the Chargers by a score of 1-0. The game marked the first time this season in which the Oilers were not able to get on the board.

Aryan Punjabi spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up seven Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Mt. Pleasant is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-4 otherwise.
Meanwhile, Grosse Pointe South entered their tilt with L'Anse Creuse North on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Crusaders. Ten seems to be a good number for the Blue Devils as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Dane Lezotte made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Andrew Dilodovico, who went 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, and one RBI. Those three doubles gave him a new career-high. Evan Bernard was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Grosse Pointe South hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive matchups.
Mt. Pleasant's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Grosse Pointe South, their record is now 23-4.
Mt. Pleasant couldn't quite get it done against Grosse Pointe South in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 6-2. Can the Oilers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
