After a string of eight wins, the Eastern Mennonite Flames's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a 72-67 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hargrave Military Academy. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Several Flames players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Prodigy Simms, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Shawn Valentine, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds.
It was another big night for Dante Kearse, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 18 rebounds for Hargrave Military Academy. Kearse is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Javon Brooks, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds.
Eastern Mennonite's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-4. As for Hargrave Military Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.
Eastern Mennonite will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Bishops at 6:30 p.m. Virginia Episcopal School is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak. Hargrave Military Academy will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against the Chiefs at 6:45 p.m. on January 23rd. Carlisle is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 68.7 points per game this season.
