Hononegah is on a seven-game streak of home wins, while Batavia is on a five-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Hononegah Indians will take on the Batavia Bulldogs at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
With a playoff game on the line, Hononegah rose to the challenge on Saturday. They breezed by Willowbrook at home to the tune of 44-0. Given Hononegah's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 24th, while Willowbrook is ranked 122nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hononegah had a senior duo take command as Cole Warren threw for 124 yards and two touchdowns and Isaiah Houi picked up 97 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Batavia humbled Lincoln-Way Central with a 45-17 victory. Batavia pushed the score to 42-10 by the end of the third, a deficit Lincoln-Way Central cut but never quite recovered from.
Batavia had a senior duo take command as Ryan Boe threw for 243 yards and three touchdowns and Charlie Whelpley rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries. Boe is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last three games he's played. Cj Valente was another key contributor, picking up 96 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Their wins bumped Hononegah to 11-0 and Batavia to 10-1.
Hononegah was taken down by Batavia 48-0 in their previous meeting back in November of 2019. Thankfully for Hononegah, Artavion Taylor (who rushed for 218 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.5 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
