Baseball Recap: Keyport Wins Going Away Against Asbury Park

While Keyport put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Asbury Park. The Raiders were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the Bishops. The victory continues a trend for the Raiders in their matchups with the Bishops: they've now won five in a row.

Tristan Knoblauch and Jacob Pinto made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Knoblauch struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Pinto pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Knoblauch has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season. At bat, Knoblauch got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Pinto went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. Those three runs gave Knoblauch a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ryan Byrne, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Keyport's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-3 when he doesn't). Danny Metrick was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Keyport always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .656. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Keyport now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Asbury Park, they are on an 18-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Coming up, Keyport will head out on the road to face off against South Hunterdon at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season. As for Asbury Park, they will host Pinelands Regional at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
