Denver South is 1-9 against Denver East since December of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Denver South Ravens will head out to take on the Denver East Angels at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in Denver South's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
Denver South is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Colorado's top teams: Rangeview, who was ranked second at the time (Denver South was ranked ninth). The matchup between Denver South and Rangeview didn't end well, with Denver South falling 78-61.
Despite the defeat, Denver South had strong showings from Brody Shepherd, who went 5 for 10 en route to 13 points along with five assists and five rebounds, and Jayden Davis, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 11 points and five boards. Davis is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Christian Cobb was another key player, putting up nine points.
Meanwhile, Denver East didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Vista PEAK Prep on Friday, but they still walked away with a 65-60 win.
Denver East found their leader in sophomore LANDON EDWARDS, who went 6 for 7 en route to 14 points in addition to seven boards and four blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points EDWARDS has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of JAMES MURRAY, who posted 13 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
The victory got Denver East back to even at 6-6. As for Denver South, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-3.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Denver South has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 27.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Denver East struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.1 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Denver South beat Denver East 58-46 when the teams last played back in January of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Denver South since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
