Custer is 0-10 against Spearfish since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Custer Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Spearfish Spartans at 7:30 p.m. Custer will be strutting in after a win while Spearfish will be coming in after a defeat.
Custer put the finishing touches on their fifth blowout victory of the season on Saturday. They blew past Belle Fourche 62-38. Given Custer's advantage in MaxPreps' South Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 27th, while Belle Fourche is ranked 118th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Spearfish ended up a good deal behind Mitchell on Saturday and lost 59-45. Spearfish has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Bennett Kortan, who scored ten points along with six steals. Seth Hamilton was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five rebounds.
Custer has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. As for Spearfish, they now have a losing record at 6-7.
