The Banneker Trojans will head out to take on the Newnan Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Banneker has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since August 15.
Last Friday, Banneker came up short against McIntosh and fell 19-6.
Despite the defeat, Banneker had strong showings from Remeraz Baker, who rushed for 62 yards and one TD, and Kelian Allen, who rushed for 82 yards. Baker was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 53 yards.
Even if they lost, Banneker's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Leading the way was Quentin Hand with two. Danarris Flannigan was another major factor on D, picking up a sack, forcing one fumble, and making nine total tackles (3.0 for loss) in addition to snagging an interception.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Newnan duked it out with Lovejoy on Friday. The Cougars walked away with a 38-28 victory over the Wildcats. 38 seems to be a good number for the Cougars as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Newnan's win came from a few key players Banneker will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Brodie Campbell, who threw for 231 yards while completing 91.3% of his passes, and also punched in one rushing score. Tamarcus Mitchell made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Newnan didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Mitchell and Jamarion Brewer. Mitchell got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
The victory made it two in a row for Newnan and bumps their season record up to 6-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 38.0 points over those games. As for Banneker, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.
Banneker might still be hurting after the 44-20 defeat they got from Newnan when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Trojans, Jaylon Teagle (who rushed for 64 yards and a pair of touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
