Basketball Game Preview: Oceanside Mariners vs. Winslow Black Raiders

The Oceanside Mariners will take on the Winslow Black Raiders at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Oceanside has seven straight wins, Winslow has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Oceanside is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maine's top teams: Camden Hills, who was ranked 21st at the time (Oceanside was ranked seventh). Oceanside walked away with a 61-54 victory over Camden Hills on Saturday. 61 seems to be a good number for the Mariners as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.

Renee Ripley and Aubrianna Hoose were among the main playmakers for Oceanside as the former dropped a double-double on 21 points and 16 boards and the latter went 7 of 16 on her way to 20 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Hoose's afternoon made it seven games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryley Beaudry, who posted nine points.

Oceanside smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in five consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Winslow lost to Morse at home by a 41-27 margin on Saturday.

Oceanside's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.0 points per game. As for Winslow, their loss dropped their record down to 1-10.

Everything came up roses for Oceanside against Winslow when the teams last played back in February of 2024, as the team secured a 98-37 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Oceanside since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
