The Flagler Panthers can finally bid farewell to their nine-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They strolled past Bethune with points to spare, taking the game 50-35. The victory was just what Flagler needed coming off of a 74-37 loss in their prior matchup.
Flagler found their leader in underclassman Brayden Hill, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 15 rebounds. Another player making a difference was JR Kountz, who scored six points along with 12 rebounds.
Bethune's loss came despite strong showings from Angel Herrera and Ty Morris. Herrera scored four points along with three steals, while Morris scored 15 points along with two steals. That was a full 42.9% of Bethune's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Bethune struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Flagler posted 12 assists.
Flagler's victory ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-13. As for Bethune, they dropped their record down to 1-15 with that loss, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Flagler won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Lone Star at 4:45 p.m. on February 10th. Lone Star has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Bethune, they and Wiley will face off at 3:30 p.m. on February 10th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Wiley will be up against Bethune's rather soft defense (which has allowed 57.29 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive showing.
