The Hunter Wolverines had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They secured a 49-43 W over Taylorsville on Friday. This was payback for Hunter, who suffered a 58-21 loss the last time these two teams met.
Leading Hunter to victory were Kalysa Ng and Grace Gallagher. Ng scored 17 points along with four steals, while Gallagher dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds. Gallagher hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for six straight games. Mamakoula Tuitupou Kutu was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds.
Taylorsville lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jenna Sterzer, who scored six points along with ten rebounds and five steals. Sterzer hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Aysha Salami, who scored seven points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Even though they lost, Taylorsville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hunter only pulled down 13 offensive rebounds.
Hunter's win bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Taylorsville, they now have a losing record at 6-7.
Hunter will head out on the road to face off against Cyprus at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Utah (Cyprus is ranked 56th, while Hunter is ranked 81st). As for Taylorsville, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Kearns at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Kearns focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday.
