The Combs Coyotes posted their closest victory yet this season on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged Arizona College Prep out 64-61. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Johnathon Byaus was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. He hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jae Lujan, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Arizona College Prep lost, one person who can't be blamed is Asher Perez. Despite the final result, he scored 26 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Perez has scored all season. Fauster Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with three steals and two blocks.
Combs pushed their record up to 14-7 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.0 points per game. As for Arizona College Prep, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-5.
Combs will head out on the road to face off against American Leadership Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Arizona College Prep, they will be playing at home against American Leadership Academy - Gilbert North at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
