After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Northfield, the Denver South Ravens were happy to have found some success on Friday. They came out on top against Thomas Jefferson by a score of 59-46. Given Denver South's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 59th, while Thomas Jefferson is ranked 217th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Denver South was led to victory by Nevaeh Millard and Ka'Niya (KJ) Anderson. Millard scored 19 points along with three steals, while Anderson scored 17 points along with nine rebounds and five blocks. Millard is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Asha Daniels was another key contributor, scoring two points along with 12 rebounds and two steals.
Despite the loss, Thomas Jefferson saw an underclassman step up: Leyna McClinon scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Jalena Flores, who scored six points along with four steals.
Denver South's win bumped their record up to 8-4. As for Thomas Jefferson, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.
Denver South will face off against Vista PEAK Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Vista PEAK Prep will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. Thomas Jefferson won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Sierra at 12:00 p.m. on January 13th. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses apiece.
