The Monroe Central Golden Bears will head out on the road to face off against the Shenandoah Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Monroe Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Saturday.
Even though Monroe Central has not done well against Winchester Community recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way. Everything went Monroe Central's way against Winchester Community as Monroe Central made off with a 43-19 win. Considering Monroe Central has won five matches by more than 21 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Monroe Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sydney Patterson, who scored 14 points. The match was Patterson's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kimber Abshear, who scored 8 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 steals.
Meanwhile, Shenandoah beat Union County 45-35 on Saturday. The victory was just what Shenandoah needed coming off of a 54-23 defeat in their prior matchup.
The opposite results left the teams with opposite records: Monroe Central's win pushed their record up to 6-2, while Winchester Community's loss dropped theirs down to 2-6.
Everything went Monroe Central's way against Shenandoah in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 as Monroe Central made off with a 54-32 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Monroe Central since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
