The Gunnison Cowboys's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their eighth straight defeat. They fell just short of Roaring Fork by a score of 50-48. Gunnison has not had much luck with Roaring Fork recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Roaring Fork got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Lucas Carballeira out in front who scored 15 points along with four steals. Another player making a difference was Kiko Pena, who scored eight points along with 14 rebounds and three steals.
Gunnison's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-15. As for Roaring Fork, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-10.
Gunnison will head out on the road to challenge Crested Butte at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Gunnison will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 293rd, while Crested Butte is ranked 118th). As for Roaring Fork, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Grand Valley at 7:00 p.m. on February 16th.
