Even though the Mallard Creek Mavericks scored an imposing 75 points on Friday, the Chambers Cougars still came out on top. Chambers took down Mallard Creek 92-75. Given Chambers' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 27th, while Mallard Creek is ranked 192nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Maurio Hanson II, who dropped a triple-double on 25 points, ten rebounds, and ten assists. Tarris Bouie was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Mallard Creek's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rassell Young, who scored 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Young has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Langston Boyd, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds.
The win makes it two in a row for Chambers and bumps their season record up to 11-6. As for Mallard Creek, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chambers will face off against West Mecklenburg at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Mallard Creek, they will head out on the road to challenge West Charlotte at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.
