5 - Boys basketball teams from Northern California that have a chance to win titles in the five state final games to be played this weekend at Arco Arena in Sacramento, according to this article from InsideBayArea.com. Southern California squads typically enter as prohibitive favorites in at least one or two of the five games. But this year, the squads from Northern California are especially talented and figure to be competitive in each game. The match ups are as follows: Division 1- Dominguez vs. McClymonds, Division II- Mater Dei vs. Archbishop Mitty, Division III- Santa Margarita vs. Sacramento, Division IV- Campbell Hall vs. St. Mary's, Division V- Renaissance Academy vs. Ross Branson.
6 - States represented on the roster of the U.S. All-Stars, taking part in the 2008 Capital Classic. The squad includes Olek Czyz (Reno, Nev.), Sylvan Landesberg (Holy Cross, N.Y.), Ralph Sampson, Jr. (Northview, Ga.), Ty Walker (New Hanover, N.C.), and Renaldo Woolridge (Harvard Westlake, Calif.). They will be facing the Capital All-Stars, who feature local talents Jason Clark (Bishop O'Connell, Va.), Kris Joseph (Archbishop Carroll, Md.), Max Kenyi (Gonzaga, D.C.), and Chris Braswell (Hargrave Military Academy, Va.). The game is scheduled to take place on April 13. The teams will be coached by Dan Hurley (St. Benedict's, N.J.) and Joe Wootten (Bishop O'Connell, Va.)
89,500 - Michigan high school sports fans who were expected to attend last weekend's state finals in several winter sports. Wrestling state finals were expected to draw 40,000 fans, far and away the largest number of spectators of any sport holding finals over the weekend. Girls basketball finals were expected to draw 25,000 fans. Nearly 1,200 total medals and trophies were to be awarded.
