The Marissa/Coulterville Meteors will head out on the road to challenge the Breese Central Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Marissa/Coulterville is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last seven games.
Marissa/Coulterville is headed into the game having just posted their closest victory since May 2, 2024 on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Civic Memorial, sneaking past 9-7.
The team relied heavily on Kennedy Trieb, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Reilly Reid, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Marissa/Coulterville lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now launched at least two home runs in three consecutive contests.
Breese Central came out on top against Civic Memorial on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Cougars had just enough and edged out the Eagles 6-4.
Lily Lappe spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on four hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Taylor Trame was incredible, firing off two home runs and six RBI while going 2-for-3. Abie Huber was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
Marissa/Coulterville's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Breese Central, their record is now 7-19.
Breese Central's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Marissa/Coulterville has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Breese Central, though, as they've been averaging 10.2 hits. Given Marissa/Coulterville's sizable advantage in that area, the Cougars will need to find a way to close that gap.
Marissa/Coulterville was able to grind out a solid win over Breese Central when the teams last played on Saturday, winning 10-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Meteors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
