The Jay Royals will be home for the holidays to greet the Poplar Springs Atomics at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Jay has nine straight victories, Poplar Springs has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Even though Jay has not done well against Pace recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Jay walked away with a 45-32 victory over Pace.
Jay relied on the efforts of Georgia Lewis, who scored ten points along with three steals, and Aubreigh Nelson, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and four blocks. Lewis continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Hattie Locklin, who scored three points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Poplar Springs had to suffer through a rough 56-7 loss at the hands of Graceville. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Poplar Springs has scored all season.
Jay's victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-0. As for Poplar Springs, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.
Jay took their victory against Poplar Springs in their previous matchup back in December of 2020 by a conclusive 72-47. Does Jay have another victory up their sleeve, or will Poplar Springs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
