The Silver Fighting Colts will be taking part in a tournament against the Farmington Scorpions at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Thursday, Silver made easy work of Aztec and carried off a 15-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Fighting Colts, who have now won five contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Silver got a massive performance out of Sophia Nemeth, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Maria Ruelaz was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Farmington posted their closest win since May 3, 2024 on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over West Las Vegas. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Scorpions.
Ashlynn Sandoval spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Aaliyah Archuleta, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Silver's win bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Farmington, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2-1.
Friday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Silver has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .490. However, it's not like Farmington struggles in that department as they've averaged .454. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Silver's way against Farmington in their previous meeting two weeks ago, as Silver made off with a 12-2 win. Does Silver have another victory up their sleeve, or will Farmington turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
