The Irene/Wakonda Eagles will challenge the Parker/Marion Pheasants at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Irene/Wakonda lost 3-0 to Gayville-Volin on Tuesday.
While Irene/Wakonda was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 25-19, 25-8.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Emily Oien, who had 15 digs. Another player making a difference was Ava George, who had 13 digs.
Meanwhile, Parker/Marion came up short against Hanson on Tuesday and fell 3-1.
The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 25-16, 11-25, 25-18.
Defeat or not, Parker/Marion got some senior leadership from Braelyn Berens and Mara Mohr. Berens had 23 digs and two aces, while Mohr had 17 digs and nine assists. Berens is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 12 or more in each of the last nine games she's played.
Irene/Wakonda's loss dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Parker/Marion, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-12.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's match: Irene/Wakonda has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 6.1 aces per game. However, it's not like Parker/Marion struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.6 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
