The Evans Trojans were the 34-20 winner over the Freedom Patriots when they last played one another back in January of 2021, but their luck changed this time around. Evans took a 27-22 hit to the loss column at the hands of Freedom.
Evans' loss on Tuesday came despite strong showings from JaKayla Slater and Sylvia Rushing. Slater scored nine points along with eight rebounds and four steals, while Rushing scored seven points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Those eight rebounds set a new season-high mark for her.
Evans' defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Freedom, their win bumped their record up to 2-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Evans won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Lake Buena Vista at 6:00 p.m. on December 13th. Lake Buena Vista comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Freedom, they will head out on the road to face off against Wekiva at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Wekiva presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Freedom in Florida (Wekiva is ranked 155th, while Freedom is ranked 516th).
