Elkmont and West Limestone are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2017, but likely not for long. The Red Devils will host the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with three losses in a row, Elkmont turned things around against Grissom on Monday. They walked away with an 8-4 win over the Tigers.
MJ Woodfin was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Savannah Williams, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. McKenzie Doner was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for West Limestone, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They blew past Westminster Christian Academy 13-3 last Monday. Considering West Limestone has won 19 games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Katie Lyn Kyle spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up 14 Ks.
On the hitting side, Lilly Bethune was incredible, firing off two home runs, four runs, and one triple while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Haley Waggoner, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
West Limestone hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters in three consecutive contests.
The victory got Elkmont back to even at 11-11. As for West Limestone, their win bumped their record up to 31-5.
Elkmont might still be hurting after the 11-1 defeat they got from West Limestone in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Red Devils have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
