Wednesday just wasn't the day for J.P. McCaskey's offense. They fell just short of Hempfield by a score of 2-0 on Wednesday. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Tornados were not able to get on the board.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lancaster Catholic). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Columbia a 24-0 shutout on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Crusaders, who have now won nine games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Caroline Hoff made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ava Pisano was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and two doubles. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2025. Emmalyn Maumus was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI.
Lancaster Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .763. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Lancaster Catholic's win bumped their record up to 11-3. As for J.P. McCaskey, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.
