Basketball Recap: Smoky Mountain's Losing Streak Snapped at Five Games

Smoky Mountain hadn't done well against West Henderson recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Smoky Mountain Mustangs came out on top against the West Henderson Falcons by a score of 51-41. The 51-point effort marked the Mustangs' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Smoky Mountain's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Custer Prenger, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards. Prenger is crushing it when it comes to points: he's scored at least 16 every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Ace Prenger, who posted 16 points and five rebounds.

Defeat or not, West Henderson got some senior leadership from Tyler Nash and Parker Maltby. Nash earned ten points along with six rebounds and three blocks, while Maltby had 12 points in addition to seven rebounds and six assists. Those three blocks set a new season-high mark for Nash. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Duvall, who posted four points and six boards.

Smoky Mountain moved to 6-6 with that win, which also ended their five-game losing streak. As for West Henderson, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-11.

Smoky Mountain will face off against Robbinsville at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Smoky Mountain is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 73.7 points per game this season. As for West Henderson, they will challenge Pisgah at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Pisgah's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
