Basketball Recap: Kayleigh James Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Colby

Gilman won the last time they faced Colby and things went their way on Friday too. The Gilman Pirates were the clear victor by a 53-29 margin over the Colby Hornets. Given the Pirates' advantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while the Hornets are ranked 257th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Gilman's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kayleigh James, who posted 20 points and five steals. James' evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Reece Weir, who put up five points in addition to eight rebounds and six steals.

Gilman's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-2. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 25.0 points per game. As for Colby, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-3.

Gilman wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 52-34 loss against Greenwood on the 12th. As for Colby, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 55-35 defeat against Spencer on the 12th.
