Apex is 9-1 against Cary since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Apex Cougars will be playing at home against the Cary Imps at 6:00 p.m. Apex has given up an average of 10 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Apex came up short against Wakefield on Wednesday, falling 13-5.
Leah Kendall was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Blakely Sellers, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Cary can bid farewell to their 22-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 16-1 margin over Sanderson. With that victory, the Imps brought their scoring average up to 7.5 runs per game.
Makenzie Watkins looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. That earned run marked the first that she tossed this season.
At the plate, Catherine Baker was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, eight RBI, and four runs. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 3.2 RBI per game. Daniella Velazquez was another key player, scoring four runs while going 1-for-3.
Cary always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. The last time their OBP was this high was back in February of 2024.
Cary's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Apex, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Apex hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .341. However, it's not like Cary struggles in that department as they've averaged .326. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Apex's way against Cary when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Apex made off with a 16-1 victory. Will Apex repeat their success, or does Cary have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
