The Neumann-Goretti Saints are taking a road trip to challenge the Archbishop Wood Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
On Monday, Neumann-Goretti didn't have quite enough to beat Father Judge and fell 4-3. The defeat continues a trend for the Saints in their meetings with the Crusaders: they've now lost four in a row.
Johnluca LaSpada was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits.
At the plate, Neumann-Goretti saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Christian Meitzler, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Archbishop Wood put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on Roman Catholic with a sharp 16-0 win. That 16 run margin sets a new team best for the Vikings this season.
Brady Sell looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024.
On the hitting side, Archbishop Wood got a massive performance out of AJ Hopkins, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those two hits gave Hopkins a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Vacca, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.
Archbishop Wood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Roman Catholic only posted an OBP of .200.
Archbishop Wood pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Neumann-Goretti, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.
Neumann-Goretti skirted past Archbishop Wood 3-1 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Neumann-Goretti since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
