Hailey Elsrod spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Isabella Peed was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Zella Cook, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Northeastern kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Delta sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 win over New Castle on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won three in a row.
Everly Carter was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two doubles and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Caidyn Freiburger was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Delta's win bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Northeastern, their victory bumped their record up to 4-0.
Delta's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Northeastern has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Delta, though, as they've been averaging 9 hits. Given Northeastern's sizable advantage in that area, the Eagles will need to find a way to close that gap.
Northeastern beat Delta 12-8 when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
