The Ansley/Litchfield Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their tenth straight loss. They were outmatched by Sumner-Eddyville-Miller on the road and fell 65-32. Ansley/Litchfield was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-14.
Despite the defeat, Ansley/Litchfield saw an underclassman step up: Caydence Feldman scored 14 points along with four steals.
Ansley/Litchfield struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Sumner-Eddyville-Miller racked up 12 assists.
Sumner-Eddyville-Miller was led to victory by Mikah O'Neill and Taryn Arbuthnot. O'Neill scored 20 points along with six rebounds and five steals, while Arbuthnot scored 19 points along with nine rebounds and five steals. O'Neill has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played. Cayleigh Jackson was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Ansley/Litchfield dropped their record down to 2-13 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.3 points per game. As for Sumner-Eddyville-Miller, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 14-1.
Ansley/Litchfield's road trip will continue as they head out to face Axtell at 2:30 p.m. on January 27th. As for Sumner-Eddyville-Miller, they will square off against Amherst at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Amherst will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
